Blueberries Bid us Goodbye!

On a drive through the Sumas flats...along the freeway...it was almost hazardous.
The autumn colored blueberry fields showed off their vibrant red colors.
and I had no camera and no time to stop?
Time to slow down.
How many of you have ever picked blueberries?
I did for my first time last year and loved it.

"Blueberries as big as the end of my  thumb.
Real sky blue, and heavy, and ready to drum.
In the cavernous pail of the first one to come."
Robert Frost
Blueberries as big as the end of your thumb,
Real sky-blue, and heavy, and ready to drum

In the cavernous pail of the first one to come

  1. The birds and I pick blueberries every year at this old house...
We have one well established bush that was here when we moved in and now we have 2 little Top pot bushes on our deck...

  2. I love the red , blueberry bushes turn in fall ! and I have never heard that poem by Robert Frost -- I can just see the boy with the blueberry pail and the 'ping' 'ping' of the blueberries falling into the pail !
I have only picked wild blueberries on Mt. Baker, and in Manning Park , not on farms.

  3. Love the poem Marg! We have picked wild blueberries in Northern Ontario while at a cottage - so delicious and the colour is like no other blue colour! Your picture of the Fall blueberry foliage is so pretty! I am loving your Fall posts!

  4. I used to pick my own blueberries every year. Friends have wondered why I go through the trouble when I can buy fresh ones at the roadside stands so easily but I love the feeling of being out there and doing it myself. This year though...the stand on Prest got lots of my business. :)
