Reminiscing!

We've been so busy celebrating that it's time I reminisce about my most recent get away.
We flew into Los Angelos, Feb.12th, and drove down to Santa Monica.
Another beautiful ocean pier to explore.
We had not plans....but in the far distance I noticed activity.
Cirque de Soleil was playing on the Santa Monica Pier.

Tent's and circus's have always been on my list of favorites.
We enjoyed a fine evening of talent, shifting, bending and twisting.
One breathtaking performance. It allowed you to escape in your imagination.

There was no greater gift than to get up Monday morning, my real birth date
and stroll the beaches of  Southern California.

We strolled the boardwalk of Southern California's most popular attraction, Venice Beach. It stretches about one and a half miles along the manicured sands of the Pacific Ocean.  The board walk is a large part of what makes Venice unique. The board walk has more diversity in demographics and retail then probably anywhere else in the world.  And of course one cannot omit Muscle Beach, which used to be the workout gym for Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is a place to people watch, shop and be entertained.

Ah...don't you hear the ocean waves calling your name?

No doubt I was enjoying doing one of my favorite things.

We came across a sandy beach covered with crosses.
Of course we inquired, and shortly realized that volunteers came every Sunday
to this exact same spot and placed over 2500 crosses in memory of those that lost their lives to war.

Notice how carefully these crosses are placed,  row upon row.

This memorial  known as Arlington West,  offers visitors a graceful,
visually and emotionally powerful, place for reflection.

It could not of been a more perfect 60th.

  1. Yup...it looks like the perfect place to be on your 'real birthday'! I have good memories of our time at Venice Beach with our kids and grands a few years ago.

    Oh...and I like the scarf! :)

  10. Ocean front for your birthday! That IS the best gift! Cirque de Soleil is pretty cool too...but the ocean still trumps Cirque de Soleil!
