I Love Being Old!

Here I am....
Feb.13th   1952

Today I'm going to share a reading. that a friend gave me a few weeks ago.
This reading is to many friends who have shared many different aspects of life with me.

"I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly.  As   I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avant-garde on my patio.  I am entitled to a treat, to be   messy, to be extravagant. "

What else can one expect with five brothers and one sister?
Living with five brothers taught me to become one feisty gal.
They conditioned me well for the long haul.
And my sister?  well she keeps me level-headed.
Thank-you FAMILY!

"I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon: before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging."
Yes, my parents and brother Len left this world far to soon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``
"Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4:00 AM and sleep until noon?  I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60 & 70's and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ....I will."
This group of friends only knows too well...
what it means when we chat on our computers in the wee hours.
"I can't sleep!"  are familiar phrases..."Is anyone out there in cyber space?"
Thank you ladies for holding me strong through my rough days!
A whirlwind of activities and events which keep us young.
You've brought many smiles to my life.
Here's another group that let's me dance the tunes of 60's & 70's.
It's called "Let the good times roll."
Who says we're getting OLD?
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set.
They, too, will get OLD."
Can't you see that I too, was YOUNG????
~~~~~~~~~
"I know I am sometimes forgetful.  But then again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things."
I have two daughters who remind me of many things.
But remember they too are getting OLDER.   MIKKI, HOW OLD ARE YOU TODAY?
~~~~~~~~~

"Sure, over the years my heart has been broken.  How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when your beloved pet gets hit by a car?  But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect."

Thanks Jim & Sharon for sharing life with us not only as pastors, but as friends.
You've seen our tears and dried them.
Who would of ever thought that we would share the same corporate office now?
He's the one who told me not to hang around for my 60th.
He said, "We're way to OLD to have parties!"

~~~~~~~~
" I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turn gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face.
 So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn   silver."
I won't comment whether I'm silver or blonde,
but the grooves on my face are becoming stronger.
And here I am, holding my first grandson...
and yes, they called me Oma...Aren't all Oma's OLD?
 ~~~~~~~~

"As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think.  I don't question myself anymore.  I've even earned the right to be wrong."

Jerry and I go back along way....and her positive attitude through life has helped shape my thought pattern many times..."How did Jerry manage on her own?  If she can succeed, so can I!  She's been a model and mentor for our family.  But you know what?  She's OLD Too!  She's almost retired.

 ~~~~~~~~~
"So, to answer your question, I like being old.  It has set me free.  I like the person I have become.  I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been,  or worrying about what will be.  And I shall eat dessert every single day! "
(if I feel like it).
This group of friends has hung in there with me for 40 some years.
This past weekend, they gave me the royal bumps plus a bowl of dried prunes.
And let me tell you...we ALL  love to eat our desserts.
It doesn't matter how OLD we are.
One more group of friends that love getting OLD!
As you can tell we love to celebrate in style.
So as life goes on, grab it and live each day to it's best.
And if you really want to have fun...
Here's some more OLDER friends who can't stop laughing with me.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing this day with me!
I LOVE BEING OLD!
  9. You certainly are blessed with lots of friends! I love the old family photo and how everyone is dressed up. I never knew your dad looking so young, but your mom did not change that much over the years. You in the bathing suit... so very cute!!! We can see the spunk in you! The first photo by the 50's car is pricelss too ... but I figured it was not taken in 1952 ... that's the year you were born! Happy 60th Birthday!
  14. Oh Marg! You are SO close to me! SO today you're enjoying our sunny, windy weather. If you drove NORTH up the coast you'd pass Getty Villa, then Malibu and after you crossed the Ventura County line you'd be in "shoutin' distance" up the road from me :)
  16. Happy 6oth Marg, Thank you for your wonderfully inspiring posting today. As I scrolled through, I recognized a few people - one of whom has awesome "abs"! Could it be that Mennonite Girls Can Cook recipes produce such fine results? Wishing you many blessings and lots of fun this upcoming year.
