Opportunities

This is a New Year 2009!
We will open the book. It's pages are blank.
We are going to put words on them ourselves.

The book is called Opportunity,

and it's first chapter is New Years Day.

I am reminded of the many friendships and relationships that
I have encountered through my blog world.
I would never of dreamt that I would of found myself sharing
practical experiences of life and family with so many blogging friends.

I have reflected about my family and friends
that have played a large part of my life.
So many of you have supported me, encouraged me,
laughed with and walked with me through the challenges
and celebrations of the year 2008.

This photo resembles all the family members of a recent gathering.
Shoes lying in the front entrance...
tells me that people are coming and going.

I think of the people that have walked
through my home in the past year....
Have I made a difference?
Have I judged them?
Can they trust me?
Have I gossiped about them?
Do I look at them with a heart of love?
Or do I look at them like,
"What do you want from me again?"

I think of the many new opportunities this year.
Some are written in stone and others are waiting to evolve.
As I move forward into a new year of possibilities and opportunities,
I ask You, Heavenly Father to shine through me into the lives of others.

“Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!

I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!”

William Ward

May you all be able to reach out and
make the best of your opportunities in Year 2009!

  2. My goodness....what a wonderful New Year post you assembled here! I love the shoes photo!!! Perfect symbolism for a gathering of friends and loved ones.

Another blogger suggested choosing a theme word for the coming year instead of making a wordy resolution. I think you've pointed out a great theme: Opportunities! That we will be open to them and aware, and as you said, let God shine through us!

Sorry for this wordy comment, though. Your post should be summed up in one word: Perfect!

    Happy New Year!

  5. Excellent post! The pictures of the shoes makes me smile. Thank you for including us in your friendship group - we have so many marvelous times in this last year and look forward to many more in the upcoming. I do like the theme of "opportunity" rather than resolutions for this next year....Elma
